This hadith has been narrated on the authority of jurairi with the same
chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of words (and this is)
that he (the narrator) did not say:
" They felt jealous of him. but said: The people of Mecca, were jealous people."
وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ
الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، بِهَذَا
الإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَكَانَ أَهْلُ مَكَّةَ قَوْمَ
حَسَدٍ . وَلَمْ يَقُلْ يَحْسُدُونَهُ .
Abu Hurairah narrated that The Messenger of Allah said:
“Allah becomes jealous and the believer becomes jealous. Allah’s jealousy occurs when a believer does what He has made unlawful for him.”
حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ،
عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ الصَّوَّافِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ
أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى
الله عليه وسلم
" إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغَارُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُ يَغَارُ وَغَيْرَةُ اللَّهِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْمُؤْمِنُ مَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْهِ "
. قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ
. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ
. وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ
عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى
الله عليه وسلم هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ وَكِلاَ الْحَدِيثَيْنِ صَحِيحٌ .
وَالْحَجَّاجُ الصَّوَّافُ هُوَ الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ وَأَبُو
عُثْمَانَ اسْمُهُ مَيْسَرَةُ وَالْحَجَّاجُ يُكْنَى أَبَا الصَّلْتِ
وَثَّقَهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ . حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ
الْعَطَّارُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمَدِينِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ
سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانَ عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ الصَّوَّافِ فَقَالَ ثِقَةٌ فَطِنٌ
كَيِّسٌ .
Aishah narrated:
"I was not jealous of any wife of the Prophet as I was jealous
of Khadijah, and it was not because I saw her. It was only because the
Messenger of Allah mentioned her so much, and because whenever he would
slaughter a sheep, he would look for Khadijah's friends to gift them
some of it."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هِشَامٍ
الرِّفَاعِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ
عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ
مِنْ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ

. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ صَحِيحٌ .
Narrated 'Aishah:
"I was not jealous of any wife of the Prophet (SAW) as I was jealous
of Khadijah, and it was not because I did not see her. It was only
because the Messenger of Allah (SAW) mentioned her so much, and because

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:
Don't bear aversion against one another and don't be jealous of one another and be servants of Allah.
وَحَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُهَيْلٌ، عَنْ
أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ
" لاَ تَبَاغَضُوا وَلاَ تَدَابَرُوا وَلاَ
تَنَافَسُوا وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا " .
Narrated `Aisha:
I never felt so jealous of any woman as I felt of Khadija, for Allah ordered him (the Prophet ) to give
Khadija the glad tidings of a palace in Paradise (for her).

إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ،
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ مَا
غِرْتُ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ، وَلَقَدْ أَمَرَهُ رَبُّهُ أَنْ يُبَشِّرَهَا
بِبَيْتٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ.
Narrated Anas:
It was narrated from Anas that they said: "O Messenger of Allah, why
don't you marry a woman from the Ansar?" He said: "They are very jealous."
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَنْبَأَنَا النَّضْرُ، قَالَ
حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،
عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلاَ تَتَزَوَّجُ مِنْ نِسَاءِ
الأَنْصَارِ قَالَ
" إِنَّ فِيهِمْ لَغَيْرَةً شَدِيدَةً " .
'A'isha (the wife of Allah's Apostle) said:
When Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)
fell ill, Gabriel used to recite this: "In the name of Allah, may He
cure you from all kinds of illnesses and safeguard you from the evil of a
jealous one when he feels jealous and from the evil influence of eye."

الله عليه وسلم رَقَاهُ جِبْرِيلُ قَالَ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ يُبْرِيكَ وَمِنْ
كُلِّ دَاءٍ يَشْفِيكَ وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ
إِذَا حَسَدَ وَشَرِّ كُلِّ ذِي عَيْنٍ .

'A'isha reported:
Never did I feel jealous of any woman as I was jealous
of Khadija. She had died three years before he (the Holy Prophet)
married me. I often heard him praise her, and his lord, the Exalted and
Glorious, had commanded him to give her the glad tidings of a palace of
jewels in Paradise: and whenever he slaughtered a sheep he presented
(its meat) to her female companions.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ،
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا
هِشَامٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ
عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى
خَدِيجَةَ وَلَقَدْ هَلَكَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَنِي
بِثَلاَثِ سِنِينَ لِمَا كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُهُ يَذْكُرُهَا وَلَقَدْ أَمَرَهُ
رَبُّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُبَشِّرَهَا بِبَيْتٍ مِنْ قَصَبٍ
فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَإِنْ كَانَ لَيَذْبَحُ الشَّاةَ ثُمَّ يُهْدِيهَا إِلَى
خَلاَئِلِهَا .
Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Sa'd b. Ubada (Allah be pleased with him) said:
Messenger of Allah, if I were to find with my wife
a man, should I not touch him before bringing four witnesses? Allah's
Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Yes. He said: By no means. By
Him Who has sent you with the Truth, I would hasten with my sword to him
before that. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Listen to
what your chief says. He is jealous of his honour, I am more jealous than he (is) and God is more jealous than I.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ
أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ
بِلاَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي سُهَيْلٌ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ
قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَوْ وَجَدْتُ مَعَ
أَهْلِي رَجُلاً لَمْ أَمَسَّهُ حَتَّى آتِيَ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ قَالَ
رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " نَعَمْ " . قَالَ كَلاَّ
وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ إِنْ كُنْتُ لأُعَاجِلُهُ بِالسَّيْفِ
قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ . قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " اسْمَعُوا
إِلَى مَا يَقُولُ سَيِّدُكُمْ إِنَّهُ لَغَيُورٌ وَأَنَا أَغْيَرُ مِنْهُ
وَاللَّهُ أَغْيَرُ مِنِّي " .
AI-Mughira b. Shu'ba (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Sa'd b. 'Ubada (Allah be pleased with him) said:
If I were to see a man with my wife, I would have
struck him with the sword, and not with the flat part (side) of it. When
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) heard of that, he said: Are
you surprised at Sa'd's jealousy of his honour? By Allah, I am more jealous of my honour than he, and Allah is more jealous than I. Because of His jealousy Allah has prohibited abomination, both open and secret And no person is more jealous
of his honour than Allah, and no persons, is more fond of accepting an
excuse than Allah, on account of which He has sent messengers,
announcers of glad tidings and warners; and no one is more fond of
praise than Allah on account of which Allah has promised Paradise.
حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ، وَأَبُو
كَامِلٍ فُضَيْلُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ - وَاللَّفْظُ لأَبِي
كَامِلٍ - قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ
عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ وَرَّادٍ، - كَاتِبِ الْمُغِيرَةِ - عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ
شُعْبَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ لَوْ رَأَيْتُ رَجُلاً مَعَ
امْرَأَتِي لَضَرَبْتُهُ بِالسَّيْفِ غَيْرَ مُصْفِحٍ عَنْهُ . فَبَلَغَ
ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ
" أَتَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ غَيْرَةِ
سَعْدٍ فَوَاللَّهِ لأَنَا أَغْيَرُ مِنْهُ وَاللَّهُ أَغْيَرُ مِنِّي مِنْ
أَجْلِ غَيْرَةِ اللَّهِ حَرَّمَ الْفَوَاحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا
بَطَنَ وَلاَ شَخْصَ أَغْيَرُ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَلاَ شَخْصَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ
الْعُذْرُ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَلِكَ بَعَثَ اللَّهُ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنْذِرِينَ وَلاَ شَخْصَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِ الْمِدْحَةُ
مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَلِكَ وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الْجَنَّةَ " .

'A'isha reported:
Never did I feel jealous of any wife
amongst the wives of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as I feel
in case of Khadija (though I had never seen her), for he praised her
very often.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ،
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ نِسَائِهِ مَا غِرْتُ
عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ لِكَثْرَةِ ذِكْرِهِ إِيَّاهَا وَمَا رَأَيْتُهَا قَطُّ .
Narrated `Aisha:
I never felt so jealous of any wife of Allah's Apostle as I did of Khadija because Allah's Apostle used
to remember and praise her too often and because it was revealed to Allah's Apostle that he should
give her (Khadija) the glad tidings of her having a palace of Qasab in Paradise .
حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي
رَجَاءٍ، حَدَّثَنَا النَّضْرُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي،
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ لِرَسُولِ
اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَمَا غِرْتُ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ، لِكَثْرَةِ
ذِكْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِيَّاهَا وَثَنَائِهِ
عَلَيْهَا، وَقَدْ أُوحِيَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنْ
يُبَشِّرَهَا بِبَيْتٍ لَهَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ مِنْ قَصَبٍ.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales; and do not look for
the others' faults and do not spy, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your
relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as
Allah has ordered you!")
حَدَّثَنَا
بِشْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، أَخْبَرَنَا
مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ
النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ
" إِيَّاكُمْ وَالظَّنَّ،
فَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ أَكْذَبُ الْحَدِيثِ، وَلاَ تَحَسَّسُوا، وَلاَ
تَجَسَّسُوا، وَلاَ تَحَاسَدُوا، وَلاَ تَدَابَرُوا، وَلاَ تَبَاغَضُوا،
وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا ".
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Allah's Apostle said, "Do not hate one another, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert
each other, and O, Allah's worshipers! Be brothers. Lo! It is not permissible for any Muslim to desert
(not talk to) his brother (Muslim) for more than three days."
حَدَّثَنَا
أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ
حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ
" لاَ تَبَاغَضُوا، وَلاَ
تَحَاسَدُوا، وَلاَ تَدَابَرُوا، وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا،
وَلاَ يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ
".
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Allah's Apostle said, "Do not hate one another, nor be jealous of one another; and do not desert one
another, but O Allah's worshipers! Be Brothers! And it is unlawful for a Muslim to desert his brother
Muslim (and not to talk to him) for more than three nights."

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ،
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ
" لاَ تَبَاغَضُوا، وَلاَ
تَحَاسَدُوا، وَلاَ تَدَابَرُوا، وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا،
وَلاَ يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلاَثِ لَيَالٍ ".
It was narrated that 'Aishah said:
"I never felt as jealous of any woman as I did of
Khadijah, because I saw how the Messenger of Allah remembered her, and
his Lord had told him to give her the glad tidings of a house in
Paradise made of Qasab."

إِسْحَاقَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ
عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى
امْرَأَةٍ قَطُّ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ مِمَّا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ ذِكْرِ
رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ لَهَا وَلَقَدْ أَمَرَهُ رَبُّهُ
أَنْ يُبَشِّرَهَا بِبَيْتٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ مِنْ قَصَبٍ . يَعْنِي مِنْ
ذَهَبٍ قَالَهُ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ .

A'isha the wife of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), reported
that one day Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) came out of her
(apartment) during the night and she felt jealous. Then he came and he saw me (in what agitated state of mind) I was. He said:
A'isha, what has happened to you? Do you feel jealous? Thereupon she said: How can it be (that a woman like me) should not feel jealous
in regard to a husband like you. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace
be upon him) said: It was your devil who had come to you, and she said:
Allah's Messenger, is there along with me a devil? He said: Yes. I
said: Is a devil attached to everyone? He said: Yes. I (Aisha) again
said: Allah's Messenger, is it with you also? He said: Yes, but my Lord
has helped me against him and as such I am absolutely safe from his
mischief.
حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَيْلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو صَخْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ،
قُسَيْطٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عُرْوَةَ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم حَدَّثَتْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ
اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم خَرَجَ مِنْ عِنْدِهَا لَيْلاً . قَالَتْ فَغِرْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَجَاءَ فَرَأَى مَا أَصْنَعُ
فَقَالَ " مَا لَكِ يَا عَائِشَةُ أَغِرْتِ " . فَقُلْتُ وَمَا لِي لاَ يَغَارُ مِثْلِي عَلَى مِثْلِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ
اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَقَدْ جَاءَكِ شَيْطَانُكِ " . قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَوَمَعِيَ شَيْطَانٌ
قَالَ " نَعَمْ " . قُلْتُ وَمَعَ كُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ قَالَ " نَعَمْ " . قُلْتُ وَمَعَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ "
نَعَمْ وَلَكِنْ رَبِّي أَعَانَنِي عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى أَسْلَمَ " .
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported:
I felt jealous of the women who
offered themselves to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and
said: Then when Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, revealed this:" You may
defer any one of them you wish, and take to yourself any you wish; and
if you desire any you have set aside (no sin is chargeable to you)"
(xxxiii. 51), I ('A'isha.) said: It seems to me that your Lord hastens
to satisfy your desire.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ،
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ
أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كُنْتُ أَغَارُ عَلَى اللاَّتِي
وَهَبْنَ أَنْفُسَهُنَّ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَأَقُولُ
وَتَهَبُ الْمَرْأَةُ نَفْسَهَا فَلَمَّا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ وَمَنِ ابْتَغَيْتَ مِمَّنْ عَزَلْتَ} قَالَتْ قُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَى رَبَّكَ إِلاَّ يُسَارِعُ لَكَ فِي هَوَاكَ.
Abu Sa'id reported that Gabriel came to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said:
Muhammad, have you fallen ill? Thereupon he said:
Yes. He (Gabriel) said: "In the name of Allah I exorcise you from
everything and safeguard you from every evil that may harm you and from
the eye of a jealous one. Allah would cure you and I invoke the name of Allah for you."
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ هِلاَلٍ الصَّوَّافُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ صُهَيْبٍ،
عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ، أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ
اشْتَكَيْتَ فَقَالَ
" نَعَمْ " . قَالَ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ يُؤْذِيكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ نَفْسٍ أَوْ
عَيْنِ حَاسِدٍ اللَّهُ يَشْفِيكَ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ أَرْقِيكَ .
Sahih Muslim » The Book Pertaining to the Merits of the Companions (Allah Be Pleased With Them) of the Holy Prophet
A'isha reported that Hala b. Khuwailid (sister of Khadija) sought
permission from Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) to see him and
he was reminded of Khadija's (manner of) asking leave to enter and (was
overwhelmed) with emotions thereby and said:
O Allah, it is Hala, daughter of Khuwailid, and I felt jealous
and said: Why do you remember one of those old women of the Quraish
with gums red and who is long dead-while Allah has given you a better
one in her stead?
حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ،
قَالَتِ اسْتَأْذَنَتْ هَالَةُ بِنْتُ خُوَيْلِدٍ أُخْتُ خَدِيجَةَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَعَرَفَ
اسْتِئْذَانَ خَدِيجَةَ فَارْتَاحَ لِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ
" اللَّهُمَّ هَالَةُ بِنْتُ خُوَيْلِدٍ " . فَغِرْتُ فَقُلْتُ وَمَا تَذْكُرُ
مِنْ عَجُوزٍ مِنْ عَجَائِزِ قُرَيْشٍ حَمْرَاءِ الشِّدْقَيْنِ هَلَكَتْ فِي الدَّهْرِ فَأَبْدَلَكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
.
Narrated `Aisha:
I did not feel jealous of any of the wives of the Prophet as much as I did of Khadija (although) she
died before he married me, for I often heard him mentioning her, and Allah had told him to give her
the good tidings that she would have a palace of Qasab (i.e. pipes of precious stones and pearls in
Paradise), and whenever he slaughtered a sheep, he would send her women-friends a good share of it.
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ
عُفَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، قَالَ كَتَبَ إِلَىَّ هِشَامٌ عَنْ
أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى
امْرَأَةٍ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ،
هَلَكَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَنِي، لِمَا كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُهُ
يَذْكُرُهَا، وَأَمَرَهُ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُبَشِّرَهَا بِبَيْتٍ مِنْ قَصَبٍ،
وَإِنْ كَانَ لَيَذْبَحُ الشَّاةَ فَيُهْدِي فِي خَلاَئِلِهَا مِنْهَا مَا
يَسَعُهُنَّ.
Narrated `Aisha:
I did not feel jealous of any woman as much as I did of Khadija because Allah's Apostle used to
mention her very often. He married me after three years of her death, and his Lord (or Gabriel)
ordered him to give her the good news of having a palace of Qasab in Paradise.
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ
سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ
عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ مَا
غِرْتُ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ، مِنْ كَثْرَةِ ذِكْرِ
رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِيَّاهَا. قَالَتْ وَتَزَوَّجَنِي
بَعْدَهَا بِثَلاَثِ سِنِينَ، وَأَمَرَهُ رَبُّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَوْ
جِبْرِيلُ ـ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ ـ أَنْ يُبَشِّرَهَا بِبَيْتٍ فِي
الْجَنَّةِ مِنْ قَصَبٍ.
Narrated `Aisha:
I did not feel jealous of any of the wives of the Prophet as much as I did of Khadija though I did not
see her, but the Prophet used to mention her very often, and when ever he slaughtered a sheep, he
would cut its parts and send them to the women friends of Khadija. When I sometimes said to him,
"(You treat Khadija in such a way) as if there is no woman on earth except Khadija," he would say,
"Khadija was such-and-such, and from her I had children."
حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ
مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَسَنٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ، عَنْ
هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ مَا
غِرْتُ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْ نِسَاءِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَا
غِرْتُ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ، وَمَا رَأَيْتُهَا، وَلَكِنْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى
الله عليه وسلم يُكْثِرُ ذِكْرَهَا، وَرُبَّمَا ذَبَحَ الشَّاةَ، ثُمَّ
يُقَطِّعُهَا أَعْضَاءً، ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُهَا فِي صَدَائِقِ خَدِيجَةَ،
فَرُبَّمَا قُلْتُ لَهُ كَأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا امْرَأَةٌ
إِلاَّ خَدِيجَةُ. فَيَقُولُ إِنَّهَا كَانَتْ وَكَانَتْ، وَكَانَ لِي
مِنْهَا وَلَدٌ.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales. and do not look
for the others' faults, and do not do spying on one another, and do not practice Najsh, and do not be
jealous of one another and do not hate one another, and do not desert (stop talking to) one another.
And O, Allah's worshipers! Be brothers!"
حَدَّثَنَا
عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي
الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ
" إِيَّاكُمْ وَالظَّنَّ،
فَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ أَكْذَبُ الْحَدِيثِ، وَلاَ تَحَسَّسُوا، وَلاَ
تَجَسَّسُوا، وَلاَ تَنَاجَشُوا، وَلاَ تَحَاسَدُوا، وَلاَ تَبَاغَضُوا،
وَلاَ تَدَابَرُوا، وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا ".
Narrated 'Aisha:
Once Hala bint Khuwailid, Khadija's sister, asked
the permission of the Prophet to enter. On that, the Prophet remembered
the way Khadija used to ask permission, and that upset him. He said, "O
Allah! Hala!" So I became jealous and said, "What makes
you remember an old woman amongst the old women of Quraish an old woman
(with a teethless mouth) of red gums who died long ago, and in whose
place Allah has given you somebody better than her?"
وَقَالَ
إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ خَلِيلٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ
هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتِ
اسْتَأْذَنَتْ هَالَةُ بِنْتُ خُوَيْلِدٍ أُخْتُ خَدِيجَةَ عَلَى رَسُولِ
اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فَعَرَفَ اسْتِئْذَانَ خَدِيجَةَ فَارْتَاعَ
لِذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ
" اللَّهُمَّ هَالَةَ ".
قَالَتْ فَغِرْتُ فَقُلْتُ مَا تَذْكُرُ مِنْ عَجُوزٍ مِنْ عَجَائِزِ
قُرَيْشٍ، حَمْرَاءِ الشِّدْقَيْنِ، هَلَكَتْ فِي الدَّهْرِ، قَدْ،
أَبْدَلَكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Do not desert
(stop talking to) one another, do not nurse hatred towards one another,
do not be jealous of one another, and become as fellow
brothers and slaves of Allah. It is not lawful for a Muslim to stop
talking to his brother (Muslim) for more than three days."[Al-Bukhari
and Muslim]
- وعن أنس رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :
"لا تقاطعوا ولا تدابروا، ولا تباغضوا، ولا تحاسدوا، وكونوا عباد الله إخوانًا، ولا يحل لمسلم أن يهجر أخاه فوق ثلاث" ((متفق عليه)).
Narrated 'Aishah:
It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "I used to feel jealous
of those (women) who offered themselves (in marriage) to the Prophet
and I said: 'Would a free woman offer herself?' Then Allah, the Mighty
and Sublime, revealed: 'You can postpone whom you will of them, and you
may receive whom you will.' I said: 'By Allah, I see that your Lord is
quick to respond to your wishes.'"
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ
عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو
أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ،
قَالَتْ كُنْتُ أَغَارُ عَلَى اللاَّتِي وَهَبْنَ أَنْفُسَهُنَّ
لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَقُولُ أَوَتَهَبُ الْحُرَّةُ نَفْسَهَا
فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ } قُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَى رَبَّكَ إِلاَّ يُسَارِعُ لَكَ فِي هَوَاكَ .
It
was narrated from Umm Salamah that she brought some food in a dish of
hers to the Messenger of Allah and his Companions, then 'Aishah came,
wrapped up in a garment, with a stone pestle and broke the dish. The
Prophet gathered the broken pieces of the dish and said:
"Eat; your mother got jealous,"
twice. Then the Messenger of Allah took the dish of 'Aishah and sent it
to Umm Salamah and he gave the dish of Umm Salamah to 'Aishah.
أَخْبَرَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَسَدُ بْنُ
مُوسَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ
أَبِي الْمُتَوَكِّلِ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهَا - يَعْنِي - أَتَتْ
بِطَعَامٍ فِي صَحْفَةٍ لَهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
وَأَصْحَابِهِ فَجَاءَتْ عَائِشَةُ مُتَّزِرَةً بِكِسَاءٍ وَمَعَهَا فِهْرٌ
فَفَلَقَتْ بِهِ الصَّحْفَةَ فَجَمَعَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم
بَيْنَ فِلْقَتَىِ الصَّحْفَةِ وَيَقُولُ
" كُلُوا غَارَتْ أُمُّكُمْ "
. مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
صَحْفَةَ عَائِشَةَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ وَأَعْطَى
صَحْفَةَ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ عَائِشَةَ .
Umm Salama reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:
If any Muslim who suffers some calamity says, what
Allah has commanded him," We belong to Allah and to Him shall we
return; O Allah, reward me for my affliction and give me something
better than it in exchange for it," Allah will give him something better
than it in exchange. When Abu Salama died she said: What Muslim is
better than Abu Salama whose family was the first to emigrate to the
Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). I then said the words, and
Allah gave me God's Messenger (may peace be upon him) in exchange. She
said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) sent Hatib b. Abu
Balta'a to deliver me the message of marriage with him. I said to him: I
have a daughter (as my dependant) and I am of jealous
temperament. He (the Holy Prophet) said: So far as her daughter is
concerned, we would supplicate Allah, that He may free her (of her
responsibility) and I would also supplicate Allah to do away with (her) jealous (temperament).
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ
أَيُّوبَ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ، وَابْنُ، حُجْرٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ
جَعْفَرٍ، - قَالَ ابْنُ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، - أَخْبَرَنِي
سَعْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ كَثِيرِ بْنِ أَفْلَحَ، عَنِ ابْنِ،
سَفِينَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ
اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ تُصِيبُهُ
مُصِيبَةٌ فَيَقُولُ مَا أَمَرَهُ اللَّهُ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا
إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي
خَيْرًا مِنْهَا . إِلاَّ أَخْلَفَ اللَّهُ لَهُ خَيْرًا مِنْهَا " .
قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ قُلْتُ أَىُّ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ أَوَّلُ بَيْتٍ هَاجَرَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ
صلى الله عليه وسلم . ثُمَّ إِنِّي قُلْتُهَا فَأَخْلَفَ اللَّهُ لِي
رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم . قَالَتْ أَرْسَلَ إِلَىَّ رَسُولُ
اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم حَاطِبَ بْنَ أَبِي بَلْتَعَةَ يَخْطُبُنِي
لَهُ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ لِي بِنْتًا وَأَنَا غَيُورٌ . فَقَالَ " أَمَّا
ابْنَتُهَا فَنَدْعُو اللَّهَ أَنْ يُغْنِيَهَا عَنْهَا وَأَدْعُو اللَّهَ
أَنْ يَذْهَبَ بِالْغَيْرَةِ " .
It
was narrated from Umm Salamah, that when her 'Iddah had ended, Abu Bakr
sent word to her proposing marriage to her, but she did not marry him.
Then the Messenger of Allah sent 'Umar bin Al-Khattab with a proposal of
marriage. She said:
"Tell the Messenger of Allah that I am a jealous
woman and that I have sons, and none of my guardians are present." He
went to the Messenger of Allah and told him that. He said: "Go back to
her and tell her: As for your saying that you are a jealous
woman, I will pray to Allah for you to take away your jealousy. As for
your saying that you have sons, your sons will be taken care of. And as
for your saying that none of your guardians are present, none of your
guardians, present or absent, would object to that." She said to her
son: "O 'Umar, get up and perform the marriage to the Messenger of
Allah," so he performed the marriage.
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ
الْبُنَانِيِّ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ
أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، لَمَّا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا بَعَثَ
إِلَيْهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَخْطُبُهَا عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ تَزَوَّجْهُ فَبَعَثَ
إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ
يَخْطُبُهَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَتْ أَخْبِرْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه
وسلم أَنِّي امْرَأَةٌ غَيْرَى وَأَنِّي امْرَأَةٌ مُصْبِيَةٌ وَلَيْسَ
أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَوْلِيَائِي شَاهِدٌ . فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله
عليه وسلم فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ
" ارْجِعْ إِلَيْهَا فَقُلْ
لَهَا أَمَّا قَوْلُكِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ غَيْرَى فَسَأَدْعُو اللَّهَ لَكِ
فَيُذْهِبُ غَيْرَتَكِ وَأَمَّا قَوْلُكِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ مُصْبِيَةٌ
فَسَتُكْفَيْنَ صِبْيَانَكِ وَأَمَّا قَوْلُكِ أَنْ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ
أَوْلِيَائِي شَاهِدٌ فَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَوْلِيَائِكِ شَاهِدٌ وَلاَ
غَائِبٌ يَكْرَهُ ذَلِكَ " . فَقَالَتْ لاِبْنِهَا يَا عُمَرُ قُمْ فَزَوِّجْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَزَوَّجَهُ . مُخْتَصَرٌ .
It was narrated that Salamah bin Muhabbiq said:
“When the Verse of legal punishments was revealed, it was said to Abu Thabit Sa'd bin Ubadah, who was a jealous
man: ‘If you found another man with your wife, what would you do?’ He
said: “I would strike them both wife the sword; do you think I should
wait until I bring four (witness) and he has satisfied himself and gone
away? Or should I say I saw such and such, and you will carry out the
legal punishment punishment on me (for slander) and never accept my
testimony thereafter?' Mention of that was made to the prophet (SAW) and
he said: “The sword is sufficient as a witness.' Then he said: 'No (on
second thought) I am afraid that the drunkard and the jealous
would pursue that.” (Da'if)
Abu Abdullah - meaning Ibn Majah - said: “I heard Abu Zurah saying:
“This is a Hadith of Ali bin Muhammad At-Tanafisi, I did not hear it
from him.”

مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ دَلْهَمٍ، عَنِ
الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ
الْمُحَبِّقِ، قَالَ قِيلَ لأَبِي ثَابِتٍ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ حِينَ
نَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْحُدُودِ وَكَانَ رَجُلاً غَيُورًا أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ
أَنَّكَ وَجَدْتَ مَعَ أُمِّ ثَابِتٍ رَجُلاً أَىَّ شَىْءٍ كُنْتَ تَصْنَعُ
قَالَ كُنْتُ ضَارِبَهُمَا بِالسَّيْفِ أَنْتَظِرُ حَتَّى أَجِيءَ
بِأَرْبَعَةٍ إِلَى مَا ذَاكَ قَدْ قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ وَذَهَبَ . أَوْ
أَقُولُ رَأَيْتُ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَتَضْرِبُونِي الْحَدَّ وَلاَ تَقْبَلُوا
لِي شَهَادَةً أَبَدًا . قَالَ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله
عليه وسلم فَقَالَ " كَفَى بِالسَّيْفِ شَاهِدًا " . ثُمَّ قَالَ "
لاَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَتَتَايَعَ فِي ذَلِكَ السَّكْرَانُ
وَالْغَيْرَانُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَاجَهْ
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا زُرْعَةَ يَقُولُ هَذَا حَدِيثُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ
الطَّنَافِسِيِّ وَفَاتَنِي مِنْهُ .
Sahih Muslim » The Book Pertaining to the Merits of the Companions (Allah Be Pleased With Them) of the Holy Prophet
'A'isha reported:
Never did I feel jealous of the
wives of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) but in case of Khadija,
although I did no, (have the privilege to) see her. She further added
that whenever Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) slaughtered a
sheep, he said: Send it to the companions of Khadija I annoyed him one
day and said: (It is) Khadija only who always prevails upon your mind.
Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Her love had
been nurtured in my heart by Allah Himself.
حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ،
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى نِسَاءِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلاَّ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ وَإِنِّي
لَمْ أُدْرِكْهَا . قَالَتْ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا ذَبَحَ الشَّاةَ فَيَقُولُ " أَرْسِلُوا
بِهَا إِلَى أَصْدِقَاءِ خَدِيجَةَ " . قَالَتْ فَأَغْضَبْتُهُ يَوْمًا فَقُلْتُ خَدِيجَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى
الله عليه وسلم " إِنِّي قَدْ رُزِقْتُ حُبَّهَا " .
Narrated `Aisha:
I never felt so jealous of any woman as I did of Khadija, though she had died three years before the
Prophet married me, and that was because I heard him mentioning her too often, and because his Lord
had ordered him to give her the glad tidings that she would have a palace in Paradise, made of Qasab
and because he used to slaughter a sheep and distribute its meat among her friends.
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ
إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ،
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ مَا غِرْتُ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ مَا
غِرْتُ عَلَى خَدِيجَةَ، وَلَقَدْ هَلَكَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَنِي
بِثَلاَثِ سِنِينَ، لِمَا كُنْتُ أَسْمَعُهُ يَذْكُرُهَا، وَلَقَدْ
أَمَرَهُ رَبُّهُ أَنْ يُبَشِّرَهَا بِبَيْتٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ مِنْ قَصَبٍ،
وَإِنْ كَانَ لَيَذْبَحُ الشَّاةَ ثُمَّ يُهْدِي فِي خُلَّتِهَا مِنْهَا.
Malik related to me from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman that Umar
ibn al-Khattab spoke about a man who went out with his wife's slave-
girl on a journey and had intercourse with her and then the wife
became jealous and mentioned that to Umar ibn al-Khattab. Umar
questioned him about it. He said, "She gave her to me." Umar said,
"Bring me a clear proof or I will stone you." Rabia added, "The wife
confessed that she had given her to him."
حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ
رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ،
قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ خَرَجَ بِجَارِيَةٍ لاِمْرَأَتِهِ مَعَهُ فِي سَفَرٍ
فَأَصَابَهَا فَغَارَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ . فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ
الْخَطَّابِ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ وَهَبَتْهَا لِي . فَقَالَ
عُمَرُ لَتَأْتِينِي بِالْبَيِّنَةِ أَوْ لأَرْمِيَنَّكَ بِالْحِجَارَةِ
. قَالَ فَاعْتَرَفَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ أَنَّهَا وَهَبَتْهَا لَهُ .
Anas said:
"The Prophet was with one of the Mothers of the
Believers when another one sent a wooden bowl in which was some food.
She struck the hand of the Prophet and the bowl fell and broke. The
Prophet picked up the two pieces and put them together, then he started
to gather up the food and said: 'Your mother got jealous;
eat.' So they ate. He waited until she brought the wooden bowl that was
in her house, then he gave the sound bowl to the messenger and left the
broken bowl in the house of the one who had broken it."
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، قَالَ
حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسٌ، قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ
صلى الله عليه وسلم عِنْدَ إِحْدَى أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَأَرْسَلَتْ
أُخْرَى بِقَصْعَةٍ فِيهَا طَعَامٌ فَضَرَبَتْ يَدَ الرَّسُولِ فَسَقَطَتِ
الْقَصْعَةُ فَانْكَسَرَتْ فَأَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم
الْكِسْرَتَيْنِ فَضَمَّ إِحْدَاهُمَا إِلَى الأُخْرَى فَجَعَلَ يَجْمَعُ
فِيهَا الطَّعَامَ وَيَقُولُ
" غَارَتْ أُمُّكُمْ كُلُوا "
. فَأَكَلُوا فَأَمْسَكَ حَتَّى جَاءَتْ بِقَصْعَتِهَا الَّتِي فِي
بَيْتِهَا فَدَفَعَ الْقَصْعَةَ الصَّحِيحَةَ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ وَتَرَكَ
الْمَكْسُورَةَ فِي بَيْتِ الَّتِي كَسَرَتْهَا .
It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said:
“The Prophet (SAW) was with one of the Mothers of the Believers (his
wives) and another (wife) sent a bowl containing food. She (the first
wife) struck the hand of the Messenger of (SAW) and the bowl fell and
broke. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) took the two pieces and put them
back together, then he started gathering up the food and putting it in
(the bowl). He said: 'Your mother was jealous. Eat.' So
they ate, and she (the wife who broke the bowl) brought the bowl that
was in her house and gave the intact bowl to the Messenger (SAW), who
left the broken bowl in the house of the one who broke it.”
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ
الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ كَانَ
النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عِنْدَ إِحْدَى أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
فَأَرْسَلَتْ أُخْرَى بِقَصْعَةٍ فِيهَا طَعَامٌ فَضَرَبَتْ يَدَ
الرَّسُولِ فَسَقَطَتِ الْقَصْعَةُ فَانْكَسَرَتْ فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ
صلى الله عليه وسلم الْكِسْرَتَيْنِ فَضَمَّ إِحْدَاهُمَا إِلَى الأُخْرَى
فَجَعَلَ يَجْمَعُ فِيهَا الطَّعَامَ وَيَقُولُ
" غَارَتْ أُمُّكُمْ كُلُوا "
. فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى جَاءَتْ بِقَصْعَتِهَا الَّتِي فِي بَيْتِهَا
فَدَفَعَ الْقَصْعَةَ الصَّحِيحَةَ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ وَتَرَكَ
الْمَكْسُورَةَ فِي بَيْتِ الَّتِي كَسَرَتْهَا .
'Ata' ibn Yasar said that a man came to Ibn 'Abbas and said, "I asked
a woman to marry me and she refused to marry me. Another man asked her and
she agreed to marry him. I became jealous and killed her. Is there any way
for me to repent?" He asked, "Is your mother alive?" "No," he replied. He
said, "repent to Allah Almighty and try to draw near Him as much as you can."
So I went and asked Ibn `Abbas why he inquired about the man's mother. He replied:
"I don't know of a deed closer to Allah, Exalted and Majestic, other than dutifulness to the mother."
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي
مَرْيَمَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي
كَثِيرٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ
يَسَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّهُ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي
خَطَبْتُ امْرَأَةً، فَأَبَتْ أَنْ تَنْكِحَنِي، وَخَطَبَهَا غَيْرِي،
فَأَحَبَّتْ أَنْ تَنْكِحَهُ، فَغِرْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَقَتَلْتُهَا، فَهَلْ
لِي مِنْ تَوْبَةٍ؟ قَالَ: أُمُّكَ حَيَّةٌ؟ قَالَ: لاَ، قَالَ:
تُبْ إِلَى اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَتَقَرَّبْ إِلَيْهِ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ.
فَذَهَبْتُ فَسَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ: لِمَ سَأَلْتَهُ عَنْ حَيَاةِ
أُمِّهِ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لاَ أَعْلَمُ عَمَلاً أَقْرَبَ إِلَى اللهِ
عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْ بِرِّ الْوَالِدَةِ.
`Abdullah b. `Amr b. al-`As reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said:
How would you be, O people, when Persia and Rome
would be conquered for you? `Abd ar-Rahman b `Auf said: We would say as
Allah has commanded us and we would express our gratitude to Allah.
Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Nothing else
besides it? You would (in fact) vie with one another, then you would
feel jealous, then your relations would be estranged and
then you will bear enmity against one another, or something to the same
effect. Then you would go to the poor emigrants and would make some the
masters of the others.
حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ
سَوَّادٍ الْعَامِرِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ،
أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ،
الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ بَكْرَ بْنَ سَوَادَةَ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ يَزِيدَ بْنَ
رَبَاحٍ - هُوَ أَبُو فِرَاسٍ مَوْلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ
عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ - حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ
الْعَاصِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله
عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ قَالَ " إِذَا فُتِحَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ فَارِسُ
وَالرُّومُ أَىُّ قَوْمٍ أَنْتُمْ " . قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ
بْنُ عَوْفٍ نَقُولُ كَمَا أَمَرَنَا اللَّهُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى
الله عليه وسلم " أَوْ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ تَتَنَافَسُونَ
ثُمَّ تَتَحَاسَدُونَ ثُمَّ تَتَدَابَرُونَ ثُمَّ تَتَبَاغَضُونَ أَوْ
نَحْوَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ تَنْطَلِقُونَ فِي مَسَاكِينِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ
فَتَجْعَلُونَ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَى رِقَابِ بَعْضٍ " .
Narrated Anas:
While the Prophet was in the house of one of his wives, one of the mothers of the believers sent a
meal in a dish. The wife at whose house the Prophet was, struck the hand of the servant, causing the
dish to fall and break. The Prophet gathered the broken pieces of the dish and then started collecting
on them the food which had been in the dish and said, "Your mother (my wife) felt jealous." Then he
detained the servant till a (sound) dish was brought from the wife at whose house he was. He gave the
sound dish to the wife whose dish had been broken and kept the broken one at the house where it had
been broken.
حَدَّثَنَا
عَلِيٌّ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عِنْدَ بَعْضِ نِسَائِهِ فَأَرْسَلَتْ
إِحْدَى أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِصَحْفَةٍ فِيهَا طَعَامٌ، فَضَرَبَتِ
الَّتِي النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي بَيْتِهَا يَدَ الْخَادِمِ
فَسَقَطَتِ الصَّحْفَةُ فَانْفَلَقَتْ، فَجَمَعَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه
وسلم فِلَقَ الصَّحْفَةِ، ثُمَّ جَعَلَ يَجْمَعُ فِيهَا الطَّعَامَ الَّذِي
كَانَ فِي الصَّحْفَةِ وَيَقُولُ
" غَارَتْ أُمُّكُمْ "،
ثُمَّ حَبَسَ الْخَادِمَ حَتَّى أُتِيَ بِصَحْفَةٍ مِنْ عِنْدِ الَّتِي
هُوَ فِي بَيْتِهَا، فَدَفَعَ الصَّحْفَةَ الصَّحِيحَةَ إِلَى الَّتِي
كُسِرَتْ صَحْفَتُهَا، وَأَمْسَكَ الْمَكْسُورَةَ فِي بَيْتِ الَّتِي
كَسَرَتْ فِيه.
Anas said:
The Messenger of Allah (saws) was with one of his wives. One of the
Mothers of faithful sent a bowl containing food through a servant of
hers. She struck with her hand and broke the bowl. Ibn al-Muthanna's
version has: The Prophet (saws) took the pieces of the bowl, and joined
one with the other, and began to collect the food in it, saying: Your
mother is jealous. Ibn al-Muthanna added: Eat. They ate
till a bowl of the one in whose house he was brought.
Abu Dawud said: We then returned to the version of the tradition of
Musaddad: He said: Eat. He detained the servant and the bowl till they
were free. Then he returned the sound bowl to the messenger and detained
the broken one (bowl) in his house.
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ،
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى،
حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ عِنْدَ بَعْضِ نِسَائِهِ فَأَرْسَلَتْ إِحْدَى
أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَعَ خَادِمِهَا بِقَصْعَةٍ فِيهَا طَعَامٌ
قَالَ فَضَرَبَتْ بِيَدِهَا فَكَسَرَتِ الْقَصْعَةَ - قَالَ ابْنُ
الْمُثَنَّى - فَأَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم الْكِسْرَتَيْنِ
فَضَمَّ إِحْدَاهُمَا إِلَى الأُخْرَى فَجَعَلَ يَجْمَعُ فِيهَا الطَّعَامَ
وَيَقُولُ " غَارَتْ أُمُّكُمْ " . زَادَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى "
كُلُوا " . فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى جَاءَتْ قَصْعَتُهَا الَّتِي فِي
بَيْتِهَا ثُمَّ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى لَفْظِ حَدِيثِ مُسَدَّدٍ وَقَالَ "
كُلُوا " . وَحَبَسَ الرَّسُولَ وَالْقَصْعَةَ حَتَّى فَرَغُوا
فَدَفَعَ الْقَصْعَةَ الصَّحِيحَةَ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ وَحَبَسَ
الْمَكْسُورَةَ فِي بَيْتِهِ .
It was narrated from Hisham bin 'Urwah, from his father, that 'Aishah said:
'The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah (SAW)
and the Messenger of Allah (SAW) led the people in prayer. He stood for a
long time, then he bowed for a long time, then he stood for a long
time, but it was shorter than the first standing, then he bowed for a
long time but it was shorter than the first bowing. Then he stood up,
then he prostrated, then he did the same in the second rak'ah, and when
he finished the eclipse had ended. Then he addressed the people; he
praised and glorified Allah (SWT), then he said: The sun and the moon
are two of the signs of Allah (SWT). They do not become eclipsed for the
death or birth of anyone. If you see that then call upon Allah (SWT),
the Mighty and Sublime, and magnify Him, and give charity. Then he said:
'O Ummah of Muhammad! There is no one more jealous than
Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime, when his male or female slave
commits zina. O Ummah of Muhammad! By Allah, if you knew what I know,
you would laugh little and weep much.'"
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، عَنْ
مَالِكٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ،
قَالَتْ خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِالنَّاسِ فَقَامَ
فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ ثُمَّ قَامَ
فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ وَهُوَ دُونَ الْقِيَامِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ
فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ وَهُو دُونَ الرُّكُوعِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ
فَسَجَدَ ثُمَّ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الأُخْرَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ
ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ وَقَدْ تَجَلَّتِ الشَّمْسُ فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَحَمِدَ
اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ " إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ
آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لاَ يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ
لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
وَكَبِّرُوا وَتَصَدَّقُوا " . ثُمَّ قَالَ " يَا أُمَّةَ
مُحَمَّدٍ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ أَغْيَرُ مِنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ
يَزْنِيَ عَبْدُهُ أَوْ تَزْنِيَ أَمَتُهُ يَا أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاللَّهِ
لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلاً وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ
كَثِيرًا " .
It was narrated that Aishah said:
"There was an eclipse of the sun during the time of the Messenger of
Allah (SAW). He stood and prayed, standing for a very long time, then he
bowed for a very long time. Then he stood up and (remained standing)
for a very long time, but shorter than the first time. Then he bowed for
a very long time, but shorter than the first time. Then he prostrated,
then he raised his head and stood for a long time, but it was shorter
than the first time. The he stood up and (remained standing) for a long
time, but it was shorter than the first time. Then he prostrated, and
when he finished his prayer, the eclipse had ended. He addressed the
people and praised and glorified Allah, then he said: 'The sun and the
moon do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see
that then pray, give in charity, and remember Allah, the Mighty and
Sublime.' And he said: 'O Ummah of Muhammad! There is no one who is more
jealous than Allah (SWT) when His male or female slave
commits Zina. O Ummah of Muhammad, if you knew what I know, you would
laugh little and weep much.'"

إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ
عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى
عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى فَأَطَالَ
الْقِيَامَ جِدًّا ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ جِدًّا ثُمَّ رَفَعَ
فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ جِدًّا وَهُوَ دُونَ الْقِيَامِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ
رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ وَهُوَ دُونَ الرُّكُوعِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ
سَجَدَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ وَهُوَ دُونَ
الْقِيَامِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ وَهُوَ دُونَ
الرُّكُوعِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ وَهُوَ دُونَ
الْقِيَامِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ وَهُوَ دُونَ
الرُّكُوعِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ فَفَرَغَ مِنْ صَلاَتِهِ وَقَدْ جُلِّيَ
عَنِ الشَّمْسِ فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ
ثُمَّ قَالَ " إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لاَ يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ
أَحَدٍ وَلاَ لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا
وَتَصَدَّقُوا وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " . وَقَالَ " يَا
أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ أَغْيَرَ مِنَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ
وَجَلَّ أَنْ يَزْنِيَ عَبْدُهُ أَوْ أَمَتُهُ يَا أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ لَوْ
تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلاً وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا
" .
It
was narrated from Fatimah bint Qais that Abu 'Amr bin Hafs issued a
final divorce to her while he was absent. His deputy sent some barley to
her but she did not like it. He said:
"By Allah, you have no rights over us." She went
to the Messenger of Allah and told him about that, and he said: "You
have no right to maintenance." He told her to observe her 'Iddah in the
house of Umm Sharik, then he said: "She is a woman whose house is
frequented by my Companions. Observe your 'Iddah in the house of Ibn Umm
Maktum, for he is a blind man and you can take off your garment. And
when your 'Iddah is over, let me know." She said: "When my 'Iddah was
over I told him that Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan and Abu Jahm had proposed
marriage to me. The Messenger of Allah said: 'As for Abu Jahm, his stick
never leaves his shoulder, and as for Mu'awiyah he is a poor man who
has no wealth. Rather you should marry Usamah bin Zaid.' I did not like
the idea, then he said: 'Marry Usamah bin Zaid.' So I married him and
Allah created a lot of good in him, and others felt jealous of my good fortune."
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ
سَلَمَةَ، وَالْحَارِثُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ، قِرَاءَةً عَلَيْهِ وَأَنَا
أَسْمَعُ، - وَاللَّفْظُ لِمُحَمَّدٍ - عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَاسِمِ، عَنْ
مَالِكٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ
عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ قَيْسٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا عَمْرِو
بْنَ حَفْصٍ، طَلَّقَهَا الْبَتَّةَ وَهُوَ غَائِبٌ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهَا
وَكِيلُهُ بِشَعِيرٍ فَسَخِطَتْهُ . فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ مَا لَكِ
عَلَيْنَا مِنْ شَىْءٍ . فَجَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ " لَيْسَ لَكِ نَفَقَةٌ " .
فَأَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَعْتَدَّ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ شَرِيكٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ "
تِلْكَ امْرَأَةٌ يَغْشَاهَا أَصْحَابِي فَاعْتَدِّي عِنْدَ ابْنِ أُمِّ
مَكْتُومٍ فَإِنَّهُ رَجُلٌ أَعْمَى تَضَعِينَ ثِيَابَكِ فَإِذَا حَلَلْتِ
فَآذِنِينِي " . قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا حَلَلْتُ ذَكَرْتُ لَهُ أَنَّ
مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَأَبَا جَهْمٍ خَطَبَانِي فَقَالَ
رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " أَمَّا أَبُو جَهْمٍ فَلاَ يَضَعُ
عَصَاهُ عَنْ عَاتِقِهِ وَأَمَّا مُعَاوِيَةُ فَصُعْلُوكٌ لاَ مَالَ لَهُ
وَلَكِنِ انْكِحِي أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ " . فَكَرِهْتُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ
" انْكِحِي أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ " . فَنَكَحْتُهُ فَجَعَلَ
اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِيهِ خَيْرًا وَاغْتَبَطْتُ بِهِ .
Narrated Ubadah ibn as-Samit:
The tradition mentioned above (No. 4401) has also been transmitted by
Ubadah ibn as-Samit through a different chain of narrators.
This version has: The people said to Sa'd ibn Ubadah: AbuThabit, the
prescribed punishments have been revealed: if you find a man with your
wife, what will you do?
He said: I shall strike them with a sword so much that they become
silent (i.e. die). Should I go and gather four witnesses? Until that
(time) the need would be fulfilled.
So they went away and gathered with the Messenger of Allah (saws) and
said: Messenger of Allah! did you not see AbuThabit. He said so-and-so.
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: The sword is a sufficient witness.
He then said: No, no, a furious and a jealous man may
follow this course.
Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by Waki' from
al-Fadl b. Dilham from al-Hasan, from Qabisah b. Huraith, from Salamah
b. al-Muhabbaq, from the Prophet (saws). And this is the chain of the
tradition narrated by Ibn al-Muhabbaq to the effect that a man had
sexual intercourse with a slave girl of his wife.
Abu Dawud said: Al-Fadl b. Dilham was not the memoriser of traditions.
He was a butcher in Wasit.

عَوْفٍ الطَّائِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ رَوْحِ بْنِ خُلَيْدٍ،
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، - يَعْنِي الْوَهْبِيَّ - حَدَّثَنَا
الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دَلْهَمٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ
الْمُحَبَّقِ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله
عليه وسلم بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ فَقَالَ نَاسٌ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ يَا
أَبَا ثَابِتٍ قَدْ نَزَلَتِ الْحُدُودُ لَوْ أَنَّكَ وَجَدْتَ مَعَ
امْرَأَتِكَ رَجُلاً كَيْفَ كُنْتَ صَانِعًا قَالَ كُنْتُ ضَارِبَهُمَا
بِالسَّيْفِ حَتَّى يَسْكُتَا أَفَأَنَا أَذْهَبُ فَأَجْمَعُ أَرْبَعَةَ
شُهَدَاءَ فَإِلَى ذَلِكَ قَدْ قَضَى الْحَاجَةَ . فَانْطَلَقُوا
فَاجْتَمَعُوا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالُوا يَا
رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى أَبِي ثَابِتٍ قَالَ كَذَا وَكَذَا
فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " كَفَى بِالسَّيْفِ
شَاهِدًا " . ثُمَّ قَالَ " لاَ لاَ أَخَافُ أَنْ يَتَتَايَعَ فِيهَا
السَّكْرَانُ وَالْغَيْرَانُ " . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ رَوَى وَكِيعٌ
أَوَّلَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ دَلْهَمٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ
عَنْ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْمُحَبَّقِ عَنِ
النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم . وَإِنَّمَا هَذَا إِسْنَادُ حَدِيثِ
ابْنِ الْمُحَبَّقِ أَنَّ رَجُلاً وَقَعَ عَلَى جَارِيَةِ امْرَأَتِهِ .
قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دَلْهَمٍ لَيْسَ بِالْحَافِظِ كَانَ
قَصَّابًا ...
Narrated 'Amr b. Shu'aib:
On his father's authority, said that his grandfather told that a A man
came to the Prophet (saws) crying for help. He said: His slave-girl,
Messenger of Allah! He said: Woe to you, what happened with you ? He
said that it was an evil one. He saw the slave-girl of his master; he
became jealous of him, and cut off his penis. The
Messenger of Allah (saws) said: Bring the man to me. The man was called,
but people could not get control over him. The Messenger of Allah
(saws) then said: Go away, you are free. He asked: Messenger of Allah!
upon whom does my help lie? He replied: On every believer, or he said:
On every Muslim.
Abu Dawud said: The name of the man who was emancipated was Rawh b.
Dinar
Abu Dawud said: The man who cut off the penis was Zinba'
Abu Dawud said: The Zinba' Abu Rawh was master of the slave.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ
الْحَسَنِ بْنِ تَسْنِيمٍ الْعَتَكِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ،
أَخْبَرَنَا سَوَّارٌ أَبُو حَمْزَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ،
عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مُسْتَصْرِخٌ إِلَى
النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ جَارِيَةٌ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
. فَقَالَ " وَيْحَكَ مَا لَكَ " . قَالَ شَرًّا أَبْصَرَ
لِسَيِّدِهِ جَارِيَةً لَهُ فَغَارَ فَجَبَّ مَذَاكِيرَهُ . فَقَالَ
رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " عَلَىَّ بِالرَّجُلِ " .
فَطُلِبَ فَلَمْ يُقْدَرْ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه
وسلم " اذْهَبْ فَأَنْتَ حُرٌّ " . فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
عَلَى مَنْ نُصْرَتِي قَالَ " عَلَى كُلِّ مُؤْمِنٍ " . أَوْ قَالَ
" كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ " . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ الَّذِي عُتِقَ كَانَ
اسْمُهُ رَوْحُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ الَّذِي جَبَّهُ
زِنْبَاعٌ . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ هَذَا زِنْبَاعٌ أَبُو رَوْحٍ كَانَ
مَوْلَى الْعَبْدِ .
Abu Tufail reported:
I said to Ibn `Abbas (Allah be pleased with them):
Do you think that walking swiftly round the House in three circuits,
and just walking in four circuits is the Sunnah (of the Holy Prophet),
for your people say that it is Sunnah? Thereupon he (Ibn `Abbas) said:
They have told the truth and the lie (too). I said: What do your words
"They have told the truth and the lie (too)" imply? Thereupon he said:
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) came to Mecca and the
polytheists said that Muhammad and his Companions had emaciated and
would, therefore, be unable to circumambulate the House; and they felt jealous
of him (the Holy Prophet). (It was due to this) that Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) commanded them to walk swiftly in three
(circuits) and walk (normally) in four. I said to him: Inform me if it
is Sunnah to observe Tawaf between al-Safa and al-Marwa while riding,
for your people look upon it as Sunnah. He (Ibn `Abbas) said: They have
told the truth and the lie too. I said: What do your words "They have
told the truth and the lie too" imply? He said: When Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) had come to Mecca, there was such a large
gathering of people around him that even the virgins had come out of
their houses (to catch a glimpse of his face). And they were saying: He
is Muhammad; He is Muhammad. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)
(was so gentle and kind) that the people were not beaten back (to make
way) in front of him. When there was a throng (of people) around him, he
rode (the she-camel). However, walking and trotting are better.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ،
فُضَيْلُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ
زِيَادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ، قَالَ قُلْتُ
لاِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَرَأَيْتَ هَذَا الرَّمَلَ بِالْبَيْتِ ثَلاَثَةَ
أَطْوَافٍ وَمَشْىَ أَرْبَعَةِ أَطْوَافٍ أَسُنَّةٌ هُوَ فَإِنَّ قَوْمَكَ
يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ . قَالَ فَقَالَ صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا .
قَالَ قُلْتُ مَا قَوْلُكَ صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ
اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَدِمَ مَكَّةَ فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ إِنَّ
مُحَمَّدًا وَأَصْحَابَهُ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يَطُوفُوا بِالْبَيْتِ
مِنَ الْهُزَالِ وَكَانُوا يَحْسُدُونَهُ . قَالَ فَأَمَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ
اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا ثَلاَثًا وَيَمْشُوا أَرْبَعًا
. قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الطَّوَافِ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا
وَالْمَرْوَةِ رَاكِبًا أَسُنَّةٌ هُوَ فَإِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ
أَنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ . قَالَ صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا . قَالَ قُلْتُ وَمَا
قَوْلُكَ صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه
وسلم كَثُرَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ يَقُولُونَ هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ هَذَا مُحَمَّدٌ
. حَتَّى خَرَجَ الْعَوَاتِقُ مِنَ الْبُيُوتِ . قَالَ وَكَانَ
رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لاَ يُضْرَبُ النَّاسُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ
فَلَمَّا كَثُرَ عَلَيْهِ رَكِبَ وَالْمَشْىُ وَالسَّعْىُ أَفْضَلُ .
Sahih Muslim » The Book Pertaining to the Merits of the Companions (Allah Be Pleased With Them) of the Holy Prophet
'A'isha reported that when Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) set
ont on a journey, he used to cast lots amongst his wives. Once this lot
came out in my favour and that of Hafsa. They (Hafsi, and 'A'isha) both
went along with him and Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) used
to travel (on camel) when it was night along with 'A'isha and talked
with her. Hafsa said to 'A'isha:
Would you like to ride upon my camel tonight and
allow me to ride upon your camel and you would see (what you do not
generally see) and I would see (what I do not see) generally? She said:
Yes. So 'A'isha rode upon the camel of Hafsa and Hafsa rode upon the
camel of 'A'isha and Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) came near
the camel of 'A'isha. (whereas) Hafsa had been riding over that. He
greeted her and then rode with her until they came down. She ('A'isha)
thus missed (the company of the Holy Prophet) and when they sat down,
'A'isha felt jealous. She put her foot in the grass and
said: O Allah, let the scorpion sting me or the serpent bite me. And so
far as thy Messenger is concerned, I cannot say anything about him.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ
إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِيُّ، وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ،
كِلاَهُمَا عَنْ أَبِي نُعَيْمٍ،
قَالَ عَبْدٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ
بْنُ أَيْمَنَ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ،
بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله
عليه وسلم إِذَا خَرَجَ أَقْرَعَ بَيْنَ نِسَائِهِ
فَطَارَتِ الْقُرْعَةُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ وَحَفْصَةَ فَخَرَجَتَا مَعَهُ
جَمِيعًا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه
وسلم إِذَا كَانَ بِاللَّيْلِ سَارَ مَعَ عَائِشَةَ يَتَحَدَّثُ مَعَهَا
فَقَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ لِعَائِشَةَ أَلاَ تَرْكَبِينَ اللَّيْلَةَ
بَعِيرِي وَأَرْكَبُ بَعِيرَكِ فَتَنْظُرِينَ وَأَنْظُرُ قَالَتْ بَلَى
. فَرَكِبَتْ عَائِشَةُ عَلَى بَعِيرِ حَفْصَةَ وَرَكِبَتْ
حَفْصَةُ عَلَى بَعِيرِ عَائِشَةَ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه
وسلم إِلَى جَمَلِ عَائِشَةَ وَعَلَيْهِ
حَفْصَةُ فَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ صَارَ مَعَهَا حَتَّى نَزَلُوا فَافْتَقَدَتْهُ
عَائِشَةُ فَغَارَتْ فَلَمَّا نَزَلُوا جَعَلَتْ تَجْعَلُ
رِجْلَهَا بَيْنَ الإِذْخِرِ وَتَقُولُ يَا رَبِّ سَلِّطْ عَلَىَّ
عَقْرَبًا أَوْ حَيَّةً تَلْدَغُنِي رَسُولُكَ وَلاَ أَسْتَطِيعُ
أَنْ أَقُولَ لَهُ شَيْئًا .
Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his
father that A'isha, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and
grant him peace, said, "There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of
the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and
the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, led
the people in prayer. He stood, and did so for a long time. Then he
went into ruku, and made the ruku long. Then he stood again, and did
so for a long time, though not as long as the first time. Then he went
into ruku, and made the ruku long, though not as long as thefirst
time. Then he rose, and went down into sajda. He then did the same in
the second raka, and by the time he had finished the sun had appeared.
He then gave a khutba to the people, in which he praised Allah and
then said, 'The sun and the moon are two of Allah's signs. They do not
eclipse for anyone's death nor for anyone's life. When you see an
eclipse, call on Allah and say, "Allah is greater" and give sadaqa.'
Then he said, 'O community of Muhammad! ByAllah, there is no-one more
jealous than Allah of a male or female slave of his who commits
adultery. O community of Muhammad! By Allah, if you knew what I knew,
you would laugh little and weep much'."
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ
أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهَا
قَالَتْ خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِالنَّاسِ فَقَامَ
فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ ثُمَّ قَامَ
فَأَطَالَ الْقِيَامَ وَهُوَ دُونَ الْقِيَامِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ
فَأَطَالَ الرُّكُوعَ وَهُوَ دُونَ الرُّكُوعِ الأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ
فَسَجَدَ ثُمَّ فَعَلَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الآخِرَةِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ
انْصَرَفَ وَقَدْ تَجَلَّتِ الشَّمْسُ فَخَطَبَ النَّاسَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ
وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ
" إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ
آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لاَ يَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلاَ
لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَادْعُوا اللَّهَ وَكَبِّرُوا
وَتَصَدَّقُوا - ثُمَّ قَالَ - يَا أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاللَّهِ مَا مِنْ
أَحَدٍ أَغْيَرَ مِنَ اللَّهِ أَنْ يَزْنِيَ عَبْدُهُ أَوْ تَزْنِيَ
أَمَتُهُ يَا أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَاللَّهِ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ
لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلاً وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا " .
'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:
I never felt jealous of any of the
wives of the Prophet (PBUH) as much as I did of Khadijah (May Allah be
pleased with her), although I have never seen her, but the Prophet
(PBUH) used to mention her very often. Whenever he slaughtered a sheep,
he would cut it into pieces and send them to the women friends of
Khadijah (May Allah be pleased with her). When I sometimes said to him:
"You treat Khadijah in such a way as if there is no woman on earth
except her". He (PBUH) would say, "Khadijah was such and such
(commending her and speaking well of her), and I had children from
her".[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].Another narration is: And if he (PBUH)
slaughtered a sheep, he would send meat to the friends of Khadijah (May
Allah be pleased with her) as a present as much as would suffice
them.Another narration is: When a sheep was slaughtered, he (PBUH) would
say, "Send this meat to Khadijah's friends." Once, Halah bint Khuwailid
(May Allah be pleased with her), sister of Khadijah (May Allah be
pleased with her), sought permission of Messenger of Allah (PBUH) to
enter. He recognized and recalled to his mind the manner of Khadijah
(May Allah be pleased with her) and was deeply moved. He said, "O Allah,
she must be Halah bint Khuwailid".[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
- وعن عائشة رضي الله عنها
قالت: ما غرت على أحد من نساء النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ما غرت على خديجة
رضي الله عنها، وما رأيتها قط، ولكن كان يكثر ذكرها، وربما ذبح الشاة، ثم
يقطعها أعضاء، ثم يبعثها في صدائق خديجة، فربما قلت له: كأن لم يكن في
الدنيا إلا خديجة! فيقول: "إنها كانت وكانت وكان لي منها ولد"
((متفق عليه)) .
وفي رواية وإن كان ليذبح الشاء، فيُهدي في خلائلها منها ما يسعهن.
وفي رواية كان إذا ذبح الشاة يقول: "أرسلوا بها إلى أصدقاء خديجة".
وفي رواية قالت: استأذنت هالة بنت خويلد أخت خديجة على رسول الله صلى
الله عليه وسلم، فعرف استئذان خديجة، فارتاح لذلك فقال: اللهم هالة بنت
خويلد".
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Beware of
suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales. Do not look for
other's faults. Do not spy one another, and do not practise Najsh (means
to offer a high price for something in order to allure another customer
who is interested in the thing). Do not be jealous of one
another and do not nurse enmity against one another. Do not sever ties
with one another. Become the slaves of Allah, and be brothers to one
another as He commanded. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He should
neither oppress him nor humiliate him. The piety is here! The piety is
here!" While saying so he pointed towards his chest. "It is enough evil
for a Muslim to look down upon his Muslim brother. All things of a
Muslim are inviolable for his brother in Faith: his blood, his wealth
and his honour. Verily, Allah does not look to your bodies nor to your
faces but He looks to your hearts and your deeds."Another narration is:
"Do not feel envy against one another; do not nurse enmity; do not spy
on one another and do not cheat one another. Be Allah's slaves, brethren
to one another."Another narration is: "Do not have estranged relations
with one another. Do not nurse enmity and do not feel envy against one
another. O Allah's worshippers! Be brothers!"Another narration is: "Do
not estrange mutual relations and do not intervene into the transaction
which is likely to be settled with another person."[Muslim].
- وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن
رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: "إياكم والظن، فإن الظن أكذب
الحديث، ولا تحسسوا، ولا تجسسوا ولا تنافسوا، ولا تحاسدوا، ولا تباغضوا،
ولا تدابروا، وكونوا عباد الله إخوانًا كما أمركم. المسلم أخو المسلم، لا
يظلمه، ولا يخذله ولا يحقره. التقوى ههنا، " ويشير إلى صدره "بحسب
امرئ من الشر أن يحقر أخاه المسلم، كل المسلم على المسلم حرام: دمه،
وعرضه، وماله، إن الله لا ينظر إلى أجسادكم، ولا إلى صوركم، ولكن ينظر إلى
قلوبكم وأعمالكم". وفي رواية: "لا تحاسدوا، ولا تباغضوا، ولا
تجسسوا، ولا تحسسوا ولا تناجشوا وكونوا عباد الله إخوانًا".
وفي رواية: "لا تقاطعوا، ولا تدابروا، ولا تباغضوا ولا تحاسدوا، وكونوا
عباد الله إخوانًا". وفي رواية: "لا تهاجروا ولا يبع بعضكم على
بيع بعض".

It has been narrated on the authority of Usama b. Zaid that the Prophet
(may peace be upon him) rode a donkey. It had on it a saddle under which
was a mattress made at Fadak (a place near Medina). Behind him he
seated Usama. He was going to the street of Banu Harith al-Khazraj to
inquire after the health of Sa'd b. Ubada This happened before the
Battle of Badr. (He proceeded) until he passed by a mixed company of
people in which were Muslims, polytheists, idol worshippers and the Jews
and among them were 'Abdullah b. Ubayy and 'Abdullah b. Rawaha. When
the dust raised by the hoofs of the animal spread over the company,
'Abdullah b. Ubayy covered his nose with his mantle and said:
Do not scatter the dust over us (Not minding this
remark), the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) greeted them, stopped,
got down from his animal, invited them to Allah, and recited to them
the Qur'an. 'Abdullah b. Ubayy said: O man, if what you say is the
truth, the best thing for you would be not to bother us with it in our
assemblies. Get back to your place. Whoso comes to you from us, tell him
(all) this. Abdullah b. Rawaha said: Come to us in our gatherings, for
we love (to hear) it. The narrator says: (At this), the Muslims, the
polytheists and the Jews began to rebuke one another until they were
determined to come to blows. The Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him)
continued to pacify them. (When they were pacified), he rode his animal
and came to Sa'd b. 'Ubida. He said: Sa'd, haven't you heard what Abu
Hubab (meaning 'Abdullah b. Ubayy) has said? He has said so and so. Sa'd
said: Messenger of Allah, forgive and pardon. God has granted you a
sublime position, (but so far as he is concerned) the people of this
settlement had-decided to make him their king by making him wear a crown
and a turban (in token thereof), but God has circumvented this by the
truth He has granted you. This has made him jealous and
his jealousy (must have) prompted the behaviour that you have witnessed.
So, the Holy Prophet (may peace upon him) forgave him.

وَقَالَ الآخَرَانِ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا
مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، أَنَّ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ
زَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَكِبَ حِمَارًا
عَلَيْهِ إِكَافٌ تَحْتَهُ قَطِيفَةٌ فَدَكِيَّةٌ وَأَرْدَفَ وَرَاءَهُ
أُسَامَةَ وَهُوَ يَعُودُ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ فِي بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ
الْخَزْرَجِ وَذَاكَ قَبْلَ وَقْعَةِ بَدْرٍ حَتَّى مَرَّ بِمَجْلِسٍ
فِيهِ أَخْلاَطٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُشْرِكِينَ عَبَدَةِ
الأَوْثَانِ وَالْيَهُودِ فِيهِمْ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَىٍّ وَفِي
الْمَجْلِسِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ فَلَمَّا غَشِيَتِ الْمَجْلِسَ
عَجَاجَةُ الدَّابَّةِ خَمَّرَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَىٍّ أَنْفَهُ
بِرِدَائِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لاَ تُغَبِّرُوا عَلَيْنَا . فَسَلَّمَ
عَلَيْهِمُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ثُمَّ وَقَفَ فَنَزَلَ
فَدَعَاهُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ
اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَىٍّ أَيُّهَا الْمَرْءُ لاَ أَحْسَنَ مِنْ هَذَا إِنْ
كَانَ مَا تَقُولُ حَقًّا فَلاَ تُؤْذِنَا فِي مَجَالِسِنَا وَارْجِعْ
إِلَى رَحْلِكَ فَمَنْ جَاءَكَ مِنَّا فَاقْصُصْ عَلَيْهِ . فَقَالَ
عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ اغْشَنَا فِي مَجَالِسِنَا فَإِنَّا نُحِبُّ
ذَلِكَ . ...
Narrated `Aisha:
Allah's Apostle was fond of honey and sweet edible things and (it was his habit) that after finishing
the `Asr prayer he would visit his wives and stay with one of them at that time. Once he went to
Hafsa, the daughter of `Umar and stayed with her more than usual. I got jealous and asked the reason
for that. I was told that a lady of her folk had given her a skin filled with honey as a present, and that
she made a syrup from it and gave it to the Prophet to drink (and that was the reason for the delay). I
said, "By Allah we will play a trick on him (to prevent him from doing so)." So I said to Sa`da bint
Zam`a "The Prophet will approach you, and when he comes near you, say: 'Have you taken Maghafir
(a bad-smelling gum)?' He will say, 'No.' Then say to him: 'Then what is this bad smell which i smell
from you?' He will say to you, 'Hafsa made me drink honey syrup.' Then say: Perhaps the bees of that
honey had sucked the juice of the tree of Al-`Urfut.' I shall also say the same. O you, Safiyya, say the
same." Later Sa`da said, "By Allah, as soon as he (the Prophet ) stood at the door, I was about to say
to him what you had ordered me to say because I was afraid of you." So when the Prophet came near
Sa`da, she said to him, "O Allah's Apostle! Have you taken Maghafir?" He said, "No." She said.
"Then what is this bad smell which I detect on you?" He said, "Hafsa made me drink honey syrup."
She said, "Perhaps its bees had sucked the juice of Al-`Urfut tree." When he came to me, I also said
the same, and when he went to Safiyya, she also said the same. And when the Prophet again went to
Hafsa, she said, 'O Allah's Apostle! Shall I give you more of that drink?" He said, "I am not in need of
it." Sa`da said, "By Allah, we deprived him (of it)." I said to her, "Keep quiet." '
حَدَّثَنَا فَرْوَةُ بْنُ أَبِي
الْمَغْرَاءِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ
عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ كَانَ
رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُحِبُّ الْعَسَلَ وَالْحَلْوَاءَ،
وَكَانَ إِذَا انْصَرَفَ مِنَ الْعَصْرِ دَخَلَ عَلَى نِسَائِهِ، فَيَدْنُو
مِنْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَى حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ عُمَرَ، فَاحْتَبَسَ
أَكْثَرَ مَا كَانَ يَحْتَبِسُ، فَغِرْتُ فَسَأَلْتُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقِيلَ
لِي أَهْدَتْ لَهَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ قَوْمِهَا عُكَّةً مِنْ عَسَلٍ،
فَسَقَتِ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنْهُ شَرْبَةً، فَقُلْتُ أَمَا
وَاللَّهِ لَنَحْتَالَنَّ لَهُ. فَقُلْتُ لِسَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ زَمْعَةَ
إِنَّهُ سَيَدْنُو مِنْكِ، فَإِذَا دَنَا مِنْكِ فَقُولِي أَكَلْتَ
مَغَافِيرَ فَإِنَّهُ سَيَقُولُ لَكِ لاَ. فَقُولِي لَهُ مَا هَذِهِ
الرِّيحُ الَّتِي أَجِدُ مِنْكَ فَإِنَّهُ سَيَقُولُ لَكِ سَقَتْنِي
حَفْصَةُ شَرْبَةَ عَسَلٍ فَقُولِي لَهُ جَرَسَتْ نَحْلُهُ الْعُرْفُطَ.
وَسَأَقُولُ ذَلِكَ، وَقُولِي أَنْتِ يَا صَفِيَّةُ ذَاكِ. قَالَتْ
تَقُولُ سَوْدَةُ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا هُوَ إِلاَّ أَنْ قَامَ عَلَى الْبَابِ،
فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُبَادِيَهُ بِمَا أَمَرْتِنِي بِهِ فَرَقًا مِنْكِ،
فَلَمَّا دَنَا مِنْهَا قَالَتْ لَهُ سَوْدَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
أَكَلْتَ مَغَافِيرَ قَالَ " لاَ ". قَالَتْ فَمَا هَذِهِ الرِّيحُ
الَّتِي أَجِدُ مِنْكَ. قَالَ " سَقَتْنِي حَفْصَةُ شَرْبَةَ ...
Narrated `Aisha:
Fatima the daughter of the Prophet sent someone to Abu Bakr (when he was a caliph), asking for her
inheritance of what Allah's Apostle had left of the property bestowed on him by Allah from the Fai
(i.e. booty gained without fighting) in Medina, and Fadak, and what remained of the Khumus of the
Khaibar booty. On that, Abu Bakr said, "Allah's Apostle said, "Our property is not inherited.
Whatever we leave, is Sadaqa, but the family of (the Prophet) Muhammad can eat of this property.' By
Allah, I will not make any change in the state of the Sadaqa of Allah's Apostle and will leave it as it
was during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle, and will dispose of it as Allah's Apostle used to do." So
Abu Bakr refused to give anything of that to Fatima. So she became angry with Abu Bakr and kept
away from him, and did not task to him till she died. She remained alive for six months after the death
of the Prophet. When she died, her husband `Ali, buried her at night without informing Abu Bakr and
he said the funeral prayer by himself. When Fatima was alive, the people used to respect `Ali much,
but after her death, `Ali noticed a change in the people's attitude towards him. So `Ali sought
reconciliation with Abu Bakr and gave him an oath of allegiance. `Ali had not given the oath of
allegiance during those months (i.e. the period between the Prophet's death and Fatima's death). `Ali
sent someone to Abu Bakr saying, "Come to us, but let nobody come with you," as he disliked that
`Umar should come, `Umar said (to Abu Bakr), "No, by Allah, you shall not enter upon them alone "
Abu Bakr said, "What do you think they will do to me? By Allah, I will go to them' So Abu Bakr
entered upon them, and then `Ali uttered Tashah-hud and said (to Abu Bakr), "We know well your
superiority and what Allah has given you, and we are not jealous of the good what Allah has bestowed
upon you, but you did not consult us in the question of the rule and we thought that we have got a
right in it because of our near relationship to Allah's Apostle ."
Thereupon Abu Bakr's eyes flowed with tears. And when Abu Bakr spoke, he said, "By Him in
Whose Hand my soul is to keep good relations with the relatives of Allah's Apostle is dearer to me
than to keep good relations with my own relatives. But as for the trouble which arose between me and
you about his property, I will do my best to spend it according to what is good, and will not leave any
rule or regulation which I saw Allah's Apostle following, in disposing of it, but I will follow." On that
`Ali said to Abu Bakr, "I promise to give you the oath of allegiance in this after noon." So when Abu
Bakr had offered the Zuhr prayer, he ascended the pulpit and uttered the Tashah-hud and then
mentioned the story of `Ali and his failure to give the oath of allegiance, and excused him, accepting
what excuses he had offered; Then `Ali (got up) and praying (to Allah) for forgiveness, he uttered
Tashah-hud, praised Abu Bakr's right, and said, that he had not done what he had done because of
jealousy of Abu Bakr or as a protest of that Allah had favored him with. `Ali added, "But we used to
consider that we too had some right in this affair (of rulership) and that he (i.e. Abu Bakr) did not
consult us in this matter, and therefore caused us to feel sorry." On that all the Muslims became happy
and said, "You have done the right thing." The Muslims then became friendly with `Ali as he returned
to what the people had done (i.e. giving the oath of allegiance to Abu Bakr).

يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ
شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ ـ عَلَيْهَا
السَّلاَمُ ـ بِنْتَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَرْسَلَتْ إِلَى أَبِي
بَكْرٍ تَسْأَلُهُ مِيرَاثَهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
مِمَّا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَفَدَكَ، وَمَا بَقِيَ
مِنْ خُمُسِ خَيْبَرَ، فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى
الله عليه وسلم قَالَ
" لاَ نُورَثُ، مَا تَرَكْنَا صَدَقَةٌ، إِنَّمَا يَأْكُلُ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي هَذَا الْمَالِ ".
وَإِنِّي وَاللَّهِ لاَ أُغَيِّرُ شَيْئًا مِنْ صَدَقَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ
صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ حَالِهَا الَّتِي كَانَ عَلَيْهَا فِي عَهْدِ
رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَلأَعْمَلَنَّ فِيهَا بِمَا عَمِلَ
بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَبَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَنْ
يَدْفَعَ إِلَى فَاطِمَةَ مِنْهَا شَيْئًا فَوَجَدَتْ فَاطِمَةُ عَلَى
أَبِي بَكْرٍ فِي ذَلِكَ فَهَجَرَتْهُ، فَلَمْ تُكَلِّمْهُ حَتَّى
تُوُفِّيَتْ، وَعَاشَتْ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم سِتَّةَ
أَشْهُرٍ، فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَتْ، دَفَنَهَا زَوْجُهَا عَلِيٌّ لَيْلاً،
وَلَمْ يُؤْذِنْ بِهَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا، وَكَانَ لِعَلِيٍّ
مِنَ النَّاسِ وَجْهٌ حَيَاةَ فَاطِمَةَ، فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَتِ
اسْتَنْكَرَ عَلِيٌّ وُجُوهَ النَّاسِ، فَالْتَمَسَ مُصَالَحَةَ أَبِي
بَكْرٍ وَمُبَايَعَتَهُ، ...
Sahih Muslim » The Book Pertaining to the Merits of the Companions (Allah Be Pleased With Them) of the Holy Prophet
'Abdullah b. Samit reported that Abu Dharr said:
We set out from our tribe Ghafir who look upon the
prohibited months as permissible months. I and my brother Unais and our
mother stayed with our maternal uncle who treated us well. The men of
his tribe fell jealous and they said: When you are anay
from your house, Unais commits adultery with your wife. Our -naternal
uncle came and he accused us of the sin which was conveyed to him. I
said: You have undone the good you did to us. We cannot stay with you
after this. We came to our camels and loaded (our) luggage. Our maternal
uncle began to weep covering himself with (a piece of) cloth. We
proceeded on until we encamped by the side of Mecca. Unais cast lot on
the camels (we had) and an equal number (above that). They both went to a
Kahin and he made Unais win and Unais came with our camels and an equal
number along with them. He (Abu Dharr) said: My nephew, I used to
observe prayer three years before my meeting with Allah's Messenger (may
peace be upon him). I said: For whom did you say prayer? He said: For
Allah. I said: To which direction did you turn your face (for observing
prayer)? He said: I used to turn my face as Allah has directed me to
turn my face. I used to observe the night prayer at the time of the end
of night and I fell down in prostration like the mantle until the sun
rose over me. Unais said: I have a work in Mecca, so you better stay
here.
Unais went until he came to Mecca and he came to me late. I said: What
did you do? He said: I met a person in Mecca who is on your religion and
he claims that verily it is Allah Who has sent him. I said: What do the
people say about him? He said: They say that he is a poet or a Kahin or
a magician. Unais who was himself one of the poets said. I have heard
the words of a Kahin but his words in no way resemble his (words). And 1
also compared his words to the verses of poets but such words cannot be
uttered by any poet. By Allah, he is truthful and they are liars. Then I
said: you stay here, until I go, so that I should see him. He said: I
came to Mecca and I selected an insignificant person from amongst them
and said to him: Where is he whom you call as-Sabi? He pointed out
towards me saying: He is Sabi. Thereupon the people of the valley
attacked me with sods and bows until I fell down unconscious. I stood up
after havin. regained my consciousness and I found as if I was a red
idol. I came to Zamzarn and washed blood from me and drank water from it
and listen, O son of my brother, I stayed there for thirty nights or
days and there was no food for me but the water of Zamzarn. And I became
so bulky that there appeared wrinkles upon my stomach, and I did not
feel any hunger in my stomach. It was during this time that the people
of Mecca slept in the moonlit night and none was there to eircumambulate
the House but only two women who had been invoking the name of Isafa,
and Na'ila (the two idols).
They came to me while in their circuit and I said: Marry one with the
other, but they did not dissuade from their invoking. They came to me
and I said to them: Insert wood (in the idols' private parts). (I said
this to them in such plain words) as I could not express in metaphorical
terms. These women went away crying and saying: Had there been one
amongst our people (he would have taught a lesson to you for the obscene
words used for our idols before us). These women met Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr who had also been coming down the
hill. He asked them: What has happened to you? They said: There is Sabi,
who has hidden himself between the Ka'ba and its curtain. He said: What
did he say to you? They said: He uttered such words before us as we
cannot express. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) came and he
kissed the Black Stone and circumambulated the House along with his
Companion and then observed prayer, and when he had finished his prayer,
Abu Dharr said: I was the first to greet him with the salutation of
peace and uttered (these words) in this way; Allah's Messen- ger, may
there be peace upon you, whereupon he said: It may be upon you too and
the mercy of Allah. He then said: Who are you? I said: From the tribe of
Ghifar. He leaned his hand and placed his finger on his forehead and I
said to myself: Perhaps he has not liked it that I belong to the tribe
of Ghifar.
I attempted to catch hold of his hand but his friend who knew about him
more than I dissuaded me f rom doing so. He then lifted his head and
said: Since how long have you been here? I said: I have been here for
the last thirty nights or days. He said: Who has been feeding you? I
said: There has been no food for me but the water of Zamzam. I have
grown so bulky that there appear wrinkles upon my stomach and I do not
feel any hunger. He said: It is blessed (water) and it also serves as
food. Thereupon Abu Bakr said: Allah's Messenger, let me serve as a host
to him for tonight, and then Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)
proceeded forth and so did Abu Bakr and I went along with them. Abu Bakr
opened the door and then he brought for us the raisins of Ta'if and
that was the first food which I ate there. Then I stayed as long as I
had to stay. I then came to Allah's Messenaer (may peace be upon him)
and he said: I have been shown the land abound- ing in trees and I think
it cannot be but that of Yathrib (that is the old name of Medina). You
are a preacher to your people on my behalf. I hope Allah would benefit
them through you and He would reward you. I came to Unais and he said:
What have you done? I said: I have done that I have embraced Islam and I
have testified (to the prophethood of Allah's Messenger). He said: I
have no aversion for your religion and I also embrace Islam and testify
(to the prophethood of Muhammad). Then both of us came to our mother and
she said: I have no aversion for your religion and I also embrace Islam
and testify to the prophethood of Muhammad. We then loaded our camels
and came to our tribe Ghifir and half of the tribe embraced Islam and
their chief was Aimi' b. Rahada Ghifirl and he was their leader and hall
of the tribe said: We will embrace Islam when Allah's Messenger (may
p,. ace be upon him) would come to Medina, and when Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) came to Medina the remaining half also embraced
Islam. Then a tribe Aslam came to the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon
him) and said: Allah's Messenger, we also embrace Islam like our
brothers who have embraced Islam. And they also embraced Islam.
Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Allah granted
pardon to the tribe of Ghifar and Allah saved (from destruction) the
tribe of Aslam.
حَدَّثَنَا هَدَّابُ بْنُ
خَالِدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ،
أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ هِلاَلٍ،
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ، قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ خَرَجْنَا
مِنْ قَوْمِنَا غِفَارٍ وَكَانُوا يُحِلُّونَ الشَّهْرَ
الْحَرَامَ فَخَرَجْتُ أَنَا وَأَخِي أُنَيْسٌ وَأُمُّنَا فَنَزَلْنَا
عَلَى خَالٍ لَنَا فَأَكْرَمَنَا خَالُنَا وَأَحْسَنَ
إِلَيْنَا فَحَسَدَنَا قَوْمُهُ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكَ إِذَا خَرَجْتَ عَنْ
أَهْلِكَ خَالَفَ إِلَيْهِمْ أُنَيْسٌ فَجَاءَ خَالُنَا
فَنَثَا عَلَيْنَا الَّذِي قِيلَ لَهُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَمَّا مَا مَضَى
مِنْ مَعْرُوفِكَ فَقَدْ كَدَّرْتَهُ وَلاَ جِمَاعَ لَكَ فِيمَا
بَعْدُ . فَقَرَّبْنَا صِرْمَتَنَا فَاحْتَمَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا وَتَغَطَّى
خَالُنَا ثَوْبَهُ فَجَعَلَ يَبْكِي فَانْطَلَقْنَا حَتَّى
نَزَلْنَا بِحَضْرَةِ مَكَّةَ فَنَافَرَ أُنَيْسٌ عَنْ صِرْمَتِنَا وَعَنْ
مِثْلِهَا فَأَتَيَا الْكَاهِنَ فَخَيَّرَ أُنَيْسًا فَأَتَانَا
أُنَيْسٌ بِصِرْمَتِنَا وَمِثْلِهَا مَعَهَا - قَالَ - وَقَدْ صَلَّيْتُ
يَا ابْنَ أَخِي قَبْلَ أَنْ أَلْقَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
صلى الله عليه وسلم بِثَلاَثِ سِنِينَ . قُلْتُ لِمَنْ قَالَ لِلَّهِ
. قُلْتُ فَأَيْنَ تَوَجَّهُ قَالَ أَتَوَجَّهُ حَيْثُ
يُوَجِّهُنِي رَبِّي أُصَلِّي عِشَاءً حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مِنْ آخِرِ
اللَّيْلِ أُلْقِيتُ كَأَنِّي خِفَاءٌ حَتَّى تَعْلُوَنِي
الشَّمْسُ . فَقَالَ أُنَيْسٌ إِنَّ لِي حَاجَةً بِمَكَّةَ فَاكْفِنِي
. ...
Narrated Aisha:
When there was said about me what was said which I myself was unaware of, Allah's Apostle got up
and addressed the people. He recited Tashah-hud, and after glorifying and praising Allah as He
deserved, he said, "To proceed: O people Give me your opinion regarding those people who made a
forged story against my wife. By Allah, I do not know anything bad about her. By Allah, they accused
her of being with a man about whom I have never known anything bad, and he never entered my
house unless I was present there, and whenever I went on a journey, he went with me." Sa`d bin
Mu`adh got up and said, "O Allah's Apostle Allow me to chop their heads off".
Then a man from the Al-Khazraj (Sa`d bin 'Ubada) to whom the mother of (the poet) Hassan bin
Thabit was a relative, got up and said (to Sa`d bin Mu`adh), "You have told a lie! By Allah, if those
persons were from the Aus Tribe, you would not like to chop their heads off." It was probable that
some evil would take place between the Aus and the Khazraj in the mosque, and I was unaware of all
that. In the evening of that day, I went out for some of my needs (i.e. to relieve myself), and Um
Mistah was accompanying me.
On our return, Um Mistah stumbled and said, "Let Mistah. be ruined" I said to her, "O mother Why do
you abuse your Son" On that Um Mistah became silent for a while, and stumbling again, she said,
"Let Mistah be ruined" I said to her, "Why do you abuse your son?" She stumbled for the third time
and said, "Let Mistah be ruined" whereupon I rebuked her for that. She said, "By Allah, I do not abuse
him except because of you." I asked her, "Concerning what of my affairs?" So she disclosed the whole
story to me. I said, "Has this really happened?" She replied, "Yes, by Allah." I returned to my house,
astonished (and distressed) that I did not know for what purpose I had gone out.
Then I became sick (fever) and said to Allah's Apostle "Send me to my father's house." So he sent a
slave with me, and when I entered the house, I found Um Rum-an (my mother) downstairs while (my
father) Abu Bakr was reciting something upstairs. My mother asked, "What has brought you, O (my)
daughter?" I informed her and mentioned to her the whole story, but she did not feel it as I did. She
said, "O my daughter! Take it easy, for there is never a charming lady loved by her husband who has
other wives but that they feel jealous of her and speak badly of her." But she did not feel the news as I
did. I asked (her), "Does my father know about it?" She said, "yes" I asked, Does Allah's Apostle
know about it too?" She said, "Yes, Allah's Apostle does too." So the tears filled my eyes and I wept.
Abu Bakr, who was reading upstairs heard my voice and came down and asked my mother, "What is
the matter with her? " She said, "She has heard what has been said about her (as regards the story of
Al-lfk)." On that Abu- Bakr wept and said, "I beseech you by Allah, O my daughter, to go back to
your home".
I went back to my home and Allah's Apostle had come to my house and asked my maid-servant about
me (my character). The maid-servant said, "By Allah, I do not know of any defect in her character
except that she sleeps and let the sheep enter (her house) and eat her dough." On that, some of the
Prophet's companions spoke harshly to her and said, "Tell the truth to Allah's Apostle." Finally they
told her of the affair (of the slander). She said, "Subhan Allah! By Allah, I know nothing against her
except what goldsmith knows about a piece of pure gold." Then this news reached the man who was
accused, and he said, "Subhan Allah! By Allah, I have never uncovered the private parts of any
woman." Later that man was martyred in Allah's Cause.
Next morning my parents came to pay me a visit and they stayed with me till Allah's Apostle came to
me after he had offered the `Asr prayer. He came to me while my parents were sitting around me on
my right and my left. He praised and glorified Allah and said, "Now then O `Aisha! If you have
committed a bad deed or you have wronged (yourself), then repent to Allah as Allah accepts the
repentance from his slaves." An Al-Ansari woman had come and was sitting near the gate. I said (to
the Prophet). "Isn't it improper that you speak in such a way in the presence of this lady? Allah's
Apostle then gave a piece of advice and I turned to my father and requested him to answer him (on my
behalf). My father said, "What should I say?" Then I turned to my mother and asked her to answer
him. She said, "What should I say?" When my parents did not give a reply to the Prophet, I said, "I
testify that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, and that Muhammad is His Apostle!"
And after praising and glorifying Allah as He deserves, I said, "Now then, by Allah, if I were to tell
you that I have not done (this evil action) and Allah is a witness that I am telling the truth, that would
not be of any use to me on your part because you (people) have spoken about it and your hearts have
absorbed it; and if I were to tell you that I have done this sin and Allah knows that I have not done it,
then you will say, 'She has confessed herself guilty." By Allah, 'I do not see a suitable example for me
and you but the example of (I tried to remember Jacob's name but couldn't) Joseph's father when he
said; So (for me) "Patience is most fitting against that which you assert. It is Allah (alone) whose help
can be sought.'
At that very hour the Divine Inspiration came to Allah's Apostle and we remained silent. Then the
Inspiration was over and I noticed the signs of happiness on his face while he was removing (the
sweat) from his forehead and saying, "Have the good tidings O ' "Aisha! Allah has revealed your
innocence." At that time I was extremely angry. My parents said to me. "Get up and go to him." I said,
"By Allah, I will not do it and will not thank him nor thank either of you, but I will thank Allah Who
has revealed my innocence. You have heard this story but neither did not deny it nor change it (to
defend me)," (Aisha used to say:) "But as regards Zainab bint Jahsh, (the Prophet's wife), Allah
protected her because of her piety, so she did not say anything except good (about me), but her sister,
Hamna, was ruined among those who were ruined. Those who used to speak evil about me were
Mistah, Hassan bin Thabit, and the hypocrite, `Abdullah bin Ubai, who used to spread that news and
tempt others to speak of it, and it was he and Hamna who had the greater share therein. Abu Bakr took
an oath that he would never do any favor to Mistah at all. Then Allah revealed the Divine Verse:
"Let not those among you who are good and wealthy (i.e. Abu Bakr) swear not to give (any sort of
help) to their kinsmen, and those in need, (i.e. Mistah) ...Do you not love that Allah should forgive
you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (24.22)
On that, Abu Bakr said, "Yes, by Allah, O our Lord! We wish that You should forgive us." So Abu
Bakr again started giving to Mistah the expenditure which he used to give him before.
وَقَالَ
أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي،
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ لَمَّا ذُكِرَ مِنْ شَأْنِي الَّذِي ذُكِرَ وَمَا
عَلِمْتُ بِهِ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِيَّ خَطِيبًا،
فَتَشَهَّدَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ،
ثُمَّ قَالَ
" أَمَّا بَعْدُ أَشِيرُوا
عَلَىَّ فِي أُنَاسٍ أَبَنُوا أَهْلِي، وَايْمُ اللَّهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ عَلَى
أَهْلِي مِنْ سُوءٍ، وَأَبَنُوهُمْ بِمَنْ وَاللَّهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ
عَلَيْهِ مِنْ سُوءٍ قَطُّ، وَلاَ يَدْخُلُ بَيْتِي قَطُّ إِلاَّ وَأَنَا
حَاضِرٌ، وَلاَ غِبْتُ فِي سَفَرٍ إِلاَّ غَابَ مَعِي ".
فَقَامَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ فَقَالَ ائْذَنْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ
أَنْ نَضْرِبَ أَعْنَاقَهُمْ، وَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي الْخَزْرَجِ،
وَكَانَتْ أُمُّ حَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ مِنْ رَهْطِ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلِ،
فَقَالَ كَذَبْتَ، أَمَا وَاللَّهِ، أَنْ لَوْ كَانُوا مِنَ الأَوْسِ مَا
أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ تُضْرَبَ أَعْنَاقُهُمْ. حَتَّى كَادَ أَنْ يَكُونَ
بَيْنَ الأَوْسِ وَالْخَزْرَجِ شَرٌّ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، وَمَا عَلِمْتُ
فَلَمَّا كَانَ مَسَاءُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ خَرَجْتُ لِبَعْضِ حَاجَتِي
وَمَعِي أُمُّ مِسْطَحٍ. فَعَثَرَتْ وَقَالَتْ تَعِسَ مِسْطَحٌ.
فَقُلْتُ أَىْ أُمِّ تَسُبِّينَ ابْنَكِ وَسَكَتَتْ ثُمَّ عَثَرَتِ
الثَّانِيَةَ فَقَالَتْ تَعِسَ مِسْطَحٌ، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا تَسُبِّينَ
ابْنَكِ ثُمَّ عَثَرَتِ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَتْ تَعِسَ مِسْطَحٌ. ...
Narrated 'Aishah:
"What was said about me had been said, and I myself was unaware of it,
the Messenger of Allah (SAW) got up and addressed the people. He recited
the Tashahhud and after praising and expressing gratitude to Allah, as
He deserved, he said: 'To proceed: O people! Give me your opinion
regarding those people who made a forged story against my wife. By
Allah, I do not know anything bad about her at all. By Allah, they
accused her of being with a man about whom I have never known anything
bad, and he never entered my house unless I was present there, and
whenever I went on a journey, he went with me.' Sa'd bin Mu'adh [may
Allah be pleased with him] got up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah (SAW)!
Allow me to chop their heads off!' Then a man from Al-Khazraj, to whom
the mother of Hassan bin Thabit was a relative, got up and said (to
Sa'd): 'You have told a lie! By Allah, if those persons were from
Al-Aws, you would not like to chop their heads.' It was probable that
some evil would take place between Aws and Khazraj in the Masjid while I
was unaware of that. In the evening of that day, I went out for some of
my needs, and Umm Mistah was accompanying me. On our return, Umm Mistah
stumbled and said: 'Let Mistah be ruined!' I said to her, 'O mother!

time and said: 'Let Mistah be ruined!' I said to her: 'O mother! Why do
you abuse your son?' Upon that she said: 'By Allah! I do not abuse him
except because of you.' I asked her: 'Concerning what of my affairs?' So

happened?' She replied: 'Yes, by Allah!' I returned to my house, so

the truth, that would not be of any use to me on your part, because you
(people) have spoken about it and your hearts have absorbed it (as
truth); and if I were to tell you that I have done this sin, and Allah
knows that I have not done it, then you will say: 'She has confessed her
guilt.' By Allah! I do not see a suitable example for me and you except
the example of - and I could not remember Ya'qbus name - Yusuf's father
when he said: So patience is most fitting. And it is Allah Whose help
can be sought against that which you describe (12:18). She said: "It was
at that time that Revelation came to the Messenger of Allah (SAW), and
we remained silent. Then the Revelation was over, and I noticed the
signs of happiness on his face while he was wiping (the sweat) from his
forehead, and saying: 'Have the good tidings O 'Aishah! Allah has
revealed your innocence.' At that time I was extremely angry. My parents
said to me: 'Get up and go to him.' I said: 'By Allah, I will not do
it,and will not thank him nor either of you, but I will thank Allah, Who
has revealed my innocence. You have heard (this story) but neither of
you have denied it, nor have you changed it (to defend me).'" 'Aishah

spread that news and tempt others to speak of it, and it was he and
Hamnah who had the greater share therein. Abu Bakr took an oath that he
would never do any favor for Mistah at all. Then Allah, Most High,
revealed this Ayah: 'Let not those among you who are blessed with graces
and wealth' [until the end of the Ayah] referring to Abu Bakr: 'to give
their kinsmen, the poor, and those who left their homes for Allah's
Cause.' - meaning Mistah - up to His saying: Do you not love that Allah
should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (24:22).'
On that, Abu Bakr said: 'Yes, by Allah! O our Lord! We wish that You
forgive us.' So he returned to what he had been doing."
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ
غَيْلاَنَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ،
أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ لَمَّا ذُكِرَ مِنْ شَأْنِي

أُنَاسٍ أَبَنُوا أَهْلِي وَاللَّهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ عَلَى أَهْلِي مِنْ سُوءٍ
قَطُّ وَأَبَنُوا بِمَنْ وَاللَّهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ سُوءٍ
قَطُّ وَلاَ دَخَلَ بَيْتِي قَطُّ إِلاَّ وَأَنَا حَاضِرٌ وَلاَ غِبْتُ فِي
سَفَرٍ إِلاَّ غَابَ مَعِي فَقَامَ سَعْدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ
عَنْهُ فَقَالَ ائْذَنْ لِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْ أَضْرِبَ
أَعْنَاقَهُمْ . وَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْخَزْرَجِ وَكَانَتْ أُمُّ
حَسَّانَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ مِنْ رَهْطِ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلِ فَقَالَ كَذَبْتَ
أَمَا وَاللَّهِ أَنْ لَوْ كَانُوا مِنَ الأَوْسِ مَا أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ
تُضْرَبَ أَعْنَاقُهُمْ حَتَّى كَادَ أَنْ يَكُونَ بَيْنَ الأَوْسِ
وَالْخَزْرَجِ شَرٌّ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَا عَلِمْتُ بِهِ فَلَمَّا كَانَ
مَسَاءُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ خَرَجْتُ لِبَعْضِ حَاجَتِي وَمَعِي أُمُّ
مِسْطَحٍ فَعَثَرَتْ فَقَالَتْ تَعِسَ مِسْطَحٌ فَقُلْتُ لَهَا أَىْ أَمَّ
تَسُبِّينَ ابْنَكِ فَسَكَتَتْ ثُمَّ عَثَرَتِ الثَّانِيَةَ فَقَالَتْ
تَعِسَ مِسْطَحٌ فَقُلْتُ لَهَا أَىْ أَمَّ تَسُبِّينَ ابْنَكِ فَسَكَتَتْ
